Do not invest more money than you can afford to lose.
Three former first round draft picks are on the block for the Browns, and it will be interesting to see which one of them is moved before the deadline Tuesday. The Browns could part ways with Mingo, but it would have to be the right price.
As with anything relating to the Browns, it is pretty easy to believe anything that people say or write about the club. This isn’t baseball, where you can just plug a new player into the lineup.
That the Browns would consider moving a consistent star like Thomas is curious. In addition, Mack can opt out of his contract before next season, so the Browns have reason to look for value.
Two of the biggest names being shopped are Cleveland Browns’ offensive linemen Joe Thomas and Alex Mack. “It’s just part of the business and part of being on a team that’s 2-6 at the trade deadline”, Thomas said.
Thomas returned to the Browns this season after signing an offer sheet with Jacksonville.
Mack, a two-time Pro Bowler, has a no-trade clause in his contract and would need to waive it for a trade to go through.
Mingo is playing sparingly in the Browns’ defense and his agent told cleveland.com last month that “Keke is an impact player and needs to be on the field”. Sold by the previous regime as a pass rusher, Mingo has been better utilized by the current Browns staff as a coverage linebacker, something that many media members and fans have struggled to accept.
Thomas quickly became one of the NFL’s best left tackles, where he’s made eight Pro Bowls since his rookie year. The Patriots acquired linebacker Jonathan Casillas, defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga and cornerback Aqib Talib in 2014, 2013 and 2012, respectively.
Tramon Williams shook his head slowly from side to side when asked how the Browns managed to blow a 20-7 lead November 1 on their way to a 34-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at First Energy Stadium.
