In a hilarious spoof on her eponymous talk show on Thursday, Ellen DeGeneres “took a call” from the British songstress on an ancient cell phone, filling in the other half of the conversation in the song.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays on NBC. The spoof has been viewed more than 533,000 times within a day of being uploaded.
She then went on to introduce a skit, full of intercut scenes of a singing Adele and a set-up of her responding on the other line. Not only do the two have a bad connection but the host gets another call from Drake, in the middle of his own meme-inspiring “Hotline Bling” video.
The video was debuted on Wednesday on DeGeneres’ show “Ellen” and was later posted on the show’s website. Ellen didn’t seem pleased to receive his call, though. “Let’s wrap… I’m in a hurry”.
“Hello, can you hear me?” “You’re talking so slowly”, DeGeneres continued. “I was so amazed, everyone said, ‘Lionel, Adele is doing your song ‘Hello, ” and I said, ‘No she’s not, ‘ and all of a sudden I heard ‘Hello, ‘” he explained to the magazine. American singer Lionel Richie’s song with the same title was often used in those versions.
Over the weekend, the 66-year-old Commodores Alum asked the singer if it was indeed him she was looking for, as it is in the lyrics of his famous song. Not to the point, however, where it’s any kind of problem.
“Adele and I are good friends”.
