David Pastrnak will not travel with the Bruins for their upcoming road trip, an indication that he will miss Boston’s next three games as he continues to rest a bruised foot. Khokhlachev took his place on the line with David Krejci and Loui Eriksson.
“Boston should make a decision with me”, Khokhlachev said during training camp. If I have a chance to play for Boston on the wing, I’ll play wing. “Wherever they put me”.
The biggest change through all of this has been the 5-foot-11’s shift from center to the wing, something that simply had to happen (at least to start) if Khokhlachev was ever cracking the Big B’s lineup. He has four goals and nine assists, which ties him for the AHL lead in assists and points.
The 22-year-old has appeared in four games with Boston since being drafted in the second round (40th overall) in the 2011 NHL draft.
Pastrnak is evidently still bothered by a shot that struck his left skate last Tuesday against the Coyotes. “David has a bone contusion on his foot”.
Whatever the case, the Bruins just got a little more Russian. “He’s not feeling 100 percent comfortable”. After being relatively invisible during the preseason, Khokhlachev is seemingly getting his first opportunity with the Bruins this season. “I played like 10 games back in Providence”. Khokhlachev is not really suited to the fourth line job.
Claude Julien has had no issue with playing centers at the wing position in the past, recently stating “I think the main thin is, and I’ve said it all along, centers can play wing”. “We know if he does that, he’s a versatile player, can still play center.
And so the more you can get out of those guys the better it is and I think he’s caught onto that as well”. “I can’t stand here and say I’ve seen Koko play and all the other players – you’ve got to rely on the people that have seen them and they recommended that he come up”.
