Even those with little experience in the stages of panda life could recognize the importance of what happened this week at the National Zoo.
Bei Bei, the panda cub at the National Zoo, took his first steps this week.
The zoo’s 24-hour panda cam captured the sweet moment between mother and son, showing momma Mei Xiang keeping an eye on her cub as he works out the technicalities of walking. After a minute, she scoops him back up in a bear hug.
Now, Bei Bei will begin to wander around and leave the den on his own to explore the indoor enclosure, according to the National Zoo.
And there’s no doubt now that he’s on the move, the pandamonium is just beginning.
