Do not invest more money than you can afford to lose.
Those who dined with women ate a whopping 93 percent more slices than those who dined only with other men, while also managing to inhale 86 percent more bowls of probably unremarkable salad.
Researchers said overeating may be linked to the drive to show off or indicate dominance.
The effect was not observed in female diners, who ate the same amount regardless of their companions’ genders.

By over consuming food, men unconsciously may be signaling their biological fitness, a paradoxical tactic in this case, given that “overeating consistently is going to produce a body shape research shows tends to be viewed as unattractive”, Kniffin explained. Women who dined with men were more likely to estimate themselves to have eaten more. None of the participants in this study said they were aware of consciously purchasing more of less depending on the sex of their dining companion or companions.
In this study, women’s eating habits didn’t change based on the gender of their company. The survey asked questions to assess their level of fullness, their feelings of hurriedness and their general comfort while eating.
It might sound like the totally wrong thing to do, but in an effort to show off in front of women, guys seem to eat a whole lot more than when they’re just out with the guys.
Kiffiin said there is a lesson to take away from the study.
Alongside Kniffin, the study was also conducted by Ozge Sigirci, a former visiting scholar at the Cornell University Food, and Professor Brian Wansink, director of the Food and Brand Lab.
The study’s findings are issued in the journal Evolutionary Psychological Science.
