Three Clemson football players, including wide receiver Deon Cain, have been sent home from Miami and will not play in Thursday’s Orange Bowl, according to multiple reports.
Clemson will be without three players, including one of its top playmakers, for Thursday’s Orange Bowl matchup with Oklahoma.
As first reported by ESPN Upstate’s Price Atkinson, Cain, Lakip and McCullough were sent home from South Florida for a violation of team rules. His absence leaves Clemson with senior Charone Peake and junior tight end Jordan Leggett as the secondary options behind leading receiver Artavis Scott, who has caught 84 passes this season for 805 yards and five touchdowns. He was the Tigers’ starting kicker in 2014, but has primarily handled kickoffs this season.
The news comes at a bad time for Clemson as the Tigers held their last full practice in Miami on Tuesday afternoon.
McCullough did not have a reception this season as a reserve tight end.
Coach Dabo Swinney is expected to address the matter during a press conference Wednesday morning in Fort Lauderdale.
