Jimmy Butler breaks Michael Jordan’s Bulls record for points in a half

Do not invest more money than you can afford to lose.

Butler chuckled and shook his head.

“It’s such a big goal to be Australian and represent your country at the Olympics – hopefully I have a chance to do that this year”, Bairstow said.

Entering Sunday afternoon the Bulls found themselves the winners of four out of their last five. And his final field goal of the game, fittingly, was a three-pointer he launched over Carroll with 31 seconds left that gave Chicago its first lead since early in the second quarter.

In a shocking turn of events, Derrick Rose is out for today’s game.

“Not serious. It’s something we gotta manage”, Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said.

Portis adds a dimension to the offense that no other Bulls big can. Hey, who knows? Maybe he is as good as he thinks he is?

Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Knicks. Guard Jose Calderon contributed 18 points.

Yesterday the Bulls defeated the New York Knicks and picked up their 19th win of the season, according to Bulls’ website. He was huge when his team needed him. Portis’ rookie-scale contract – annual salaries between $1.4 and $3.4 million over the next four seasons – will be ridiculously affordable in light of where the NBA’s influx of money from the new TV contract spikes the salary cap.

Chicago’s Jimmy Butler scored a team-high 23 points to help the home side to the convincing win – their third in a row. Thomas finished with 11 points. Paxson, it needs to be said, has always been a straight shooter and by far the better public speaker than Gar Forman, and it seems like the Bulls recognized this and deliberately put Paxson in front of the mic.

“Bobby has obviously brought a whole different dimension for us, and we’re all kind feeding off his energy on the bench and on the floor, ” McDermott said. “(Butler) did what he’s supposed to do when a guy’s not all of the way there.

But Butler – who set a franchise record 40 second-half points – was unstoppable down the stretch, and when he drilled a three in DeRozan’s face with two-and-a-half minutes to play, it pulled the Bulls to within two points. DeRozan’s lone contest failing to reach 20 points in the last dozen was at Chicago on Monday, when he was limited to 19 points in 36 minutes. DeRozan went off against the Bulls in a meeting Butler sat (the Raptors still lost), and so Monday was a nice test considering how well DeRozan’s been playing of late. “It’s a work in progress, we’re not going to get better overnight so we’ve just got to keep trying to get better and keep trying to build a culture here as an unselfish team”.

Elsewhere, Toronto rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Charlotte, and Chicago blew a big lead before steadying and beating NY.

Porzingis said he and his teammates could not afford to relax during extended portions of the game. His status is uncertain for Sunday’s game against the Toronto Raptors.

Dallas had only 10 points in the first quarter – its low for any period this season – and shot just 36 percent for the game, compared to 56 percent for Miami.

The Knicks started the New Year missing their first 10 shots and falling behind 11-0 and 25-8. Early reportedly will require six to 12 weeks to recover from the injury….

While 13-year veteran Kirk Hinrich has started in place of Rose, rookie Bobby Portis has seen a huge uptick in minutes during Noah’s absence. They have had both win streaks and losing streaks, but are not performing very well on the court.
