Donald Trump is blasting President Barack Obama for trying to tinker with the Second Amendment with plans to issue a gun order tightening firearms’ restrictions.

The speech was an explicit return to a theme that Mr. Obama has played down in the wake of terrorist attacks that killed 130 people in Paris on Nov 13, and 14 more on Dec 2 in San Bernardino, California, both of which were inspired by Islamic extremism. Mr. Obama said Friday during his weekly address. “And on Monday, I’ll meet with our Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, to discuss our options”. Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton has already called for more aggressive executive actions on guns, while Republican candidates largely oppose efforts to expand background checks or take other steps that curb access to guns. The president will take questions from the audience at the event moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

The White House had previously announced the Justice Department was examining unilateral action the president could take on gun control, and would be making recommendation.

Republican presidential hopefuls didn’t hold back in Sunday appearances: Carly Fiorina described the president’s repeated use of executive orders as “lawless”, while Jeb Bush called it “dangerous”. Top among them was a regulation to clarify when gun sellers need a federal firearms license, he said.

Here’s Obama’s address, via the White House. “We have long lists of criminals who own guns, who routinely purchase guns”.

“We know we can’t stop every act of violence”. “But what if we tried to stop even one?”

“The criminals don’t buy the guns from gun shows, they buy them off the street or they steal them; so it’s really not effecting at that way, but it will make it harder for an honest person to buy a firearm”, says Bob Parker, Show Promoter of CPI Gun Shows. President Barack Obama is returning to the rancor of the nation’s capital Sunday after two weeks of fun and sun in his native Hawaii, saying he’s “fired up” for his final year in office and ready to tackle unfinished business.

On “Face the Nation”, Trump once again suggested he would strip Obama’s executive orders away.

Still, Democrats have rallied to Obama’s side.

“I would prefer that we could have bipartisan support, but the truth is Republicans aren’t interested in doing anything on gun safety”, Sanders said.

“The one thing good about executive orders: The new president, if he comes in – boom, first day, first hour, first minute, you can rescind that”, he said.
