Monex’ February operating revenues down 6.4%, MoM

Monex Group (TYO:8698), a Japanese forex brokerage group reported a 6.4% drop in its February 2016 operating revenue to almost JPY4.1 billion, according to the company’s preliminary revenue metrics. In comparison, in January 2016 the sum was JPY 4.38 billion. As compared to February 2015, when the operating revenue was JPY4.3, this past month the figure is 5.5% lower.

According to the report, in February this year Monex has managed to reduce its financial expenses by 20% from JPY361 million to JPY288 million. The operating revenue after their deduction, however, has dropped by 5.2%.

Earlier this month Monex reported a  13% increase in its total global forex trading volumes for February 2016, month-on-month, reaching $42.9 billion. This is the broker’s best performance since at least February 2015.

At the same time the global daily average revenue trades (DARTS) over the 20 business days in February 2016 were 354 366 – 1.5% less than in the preceding month.

In terms of market capitalization as of March 21, Monex Group is ranked 5-th in the world with $800 million, ahead of its main competitor on the Japanese market GMO Click (TYO:7177).

Monex Group operates under three retail trading brands – Monex, TradeStation and Boom. It consists of Japan-based holding company Monex Group Inc. and its Japanese subsidiaries Monex Inc., Monex Ventures, Trade Science Corp., Monex Hambrecht, and Monex-Saison-Vanguard Investment Partners, which is a joint venture in which the group holds a majority stake. In addition, the group owns TradeStation Group, which is in charge of the operations in North America and Europe, and Monex International, aka Monex Boom Group, which is in charge of the Asian business.
