Russia-focused forex brokerage Alpari said on Thursday its trading turnover continued to accelerate second month in a row, reaching $84.2 billion in August 2016. The figure represents a growth of 3.4% from the previous month, but at the same time is 3.8% below the levels reported a year earlier.

The GBP/USD and USD/JPY pairs continued to show the highest dynamics in terms of turnover growth last month, Alpari said.

The broker’s increased August trading metrics are inconsistent to the global trend as nearly all forex brokers, regardless of their market of operation, had a very harsh past month. Most of them posted double-digit drop in trading metrics and for some of them August was the weakest one in a few months.

Alpari offers trading in forex, metals, and contracts for difference (CFDs), and binary options. The broker supports the platforms MetaTrader 4 (MT4), MetaTrader 5 (MT5), and BinaryTrader.

In mid-August, the broker launched Alpari Options, a mobile application for trading in binary options, for users of Android devices. The move was about two months after it launched the app for iOS operating system. The broker said it has received a very positive feedback from users.

Also in August, Alpari reapplied for forex license with the Central Bank of Russia (CBR), since it was rejected to be licensed earlier this year. The CBR did not explain at the time why it had decided to not provide a license to the largest market player. Meanwhile, the broker announced in late July it is withdrawing its license application in Malta and is seeking to obtain a license in Europe, without noting under which jurisdiction. The company used to operate a UK-regulated branch, which went insolvent in January 2015 after it faced exceptional volatility and extreme lack of liquidity as a result of the EUR/CHF collapse.

Alpari is headquartered in Russia and has units regulated in Belize and registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Belarus. It is focused on Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), or the former Soviet countries. The broker was ranked as the largest forex broker by average monthly retail deposits and clients in 2015 by Interfax-Center for Economic Analysis (Interfax-CEA).
