Scan and Shop With Wish Lists: For the first time, customers can scan items in a store to build a wish list or search for someone else’s list by using the Wal-Mart app.
While the number of rollbacks in stores this holiday season will be about the same as a year ago, there will be a larger selection of deals on Walmart’s website, the company said Thursday.
Wal-Mart faces big challenges this holiday season to pull in shoppers. To better serve the growing number of shoppers who order online and pick up in stores, Wal-Mart is rolling out Mobile Check-In. Walmart is rolling out a service called “Mobile Check-In” that allows shoppers to alert stores that they have arrived to retrieve merchandise bought online for in-store pick-up.
As part of its ongoing effort to create a friendlier, more service-oriented environment in its stores, Wal-Mart also said it would have an area in many stores where children can get photos taken with Santa.
Target is bringing back free shipping for the holidays – without any restrictions. Amazon.com Inc., meanwhile, doesn’t stray from its shipping policy during the holiday, offering it only on orders exceeding $35 for shoppers who aren’t Prime members. Best Buy Co. said it would offer free shipping on all online purchases through the holiday season. It said customers were frustrated by “gimmicks” and wanted more consistent pricing.
The last day for guaranteed Christmas delivery will be December 21, one day beyond past year. Walmart expects three-quarters of its online traffic to come from mobile.
Though the plan has been communicated from the top, Target’s stores will have to carry it out, including making sure that items are in-stock, a major problem the retailer is beginning to tackle.
The discount retailer has also struck a deal with Borderfree Inc to ship products internationally to 200 countries and territories outside the USA, Chief Executive Officer Brian Cornell said at a media briefing in New York. “If we need to react we will react”, by lowering prices to match competitors, said Mr. Bratspies.
“We feel good about our position”, he said.
