Norris posted on Instagram that the surgery to remove a malignant growth on his thyroid was successful.

Detroit Tigers left-hander Daniel Norris announced on social media earlier this month that he had thyroid cancer.

“I just want to thank everyone for the thoughts & prayers”. Norris is now cancer free.

Norris, 22, was 2-1 in eight starts for the Tigers this past season after being acquired from the Blue Jays at the trade deadline.

Tigers general manager Al Avila said on October 19 that the team knew about Norris’ cancer prior to the July 30 trade of left-handed ace David Price and that Norris is expected to make a full recovery for spring training. Norris only revealed his diagnosis last week, when, again on Instagram, he posted a message telling his story, along with the picture of him signing autographs for fans.

Norris went 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA this year in 13 starts for Toronto and Detroit. At the time, Norris was told by his doctor that he would still be able to complete the season with no threat of cancer, progressing and getting any worse.
