Swraj Paul’s son falls to death in Britain

Do not invest more money than you can afford to lose.

He moved to Britain in 1966 and founded Caparo Group with a £5,000 bank loan. Emergency services raced to a building beside his home in Portland Place, Marylebone, on Sunday morning after father-of-two Mr. Paul was seen lying on the roof.

Firefighters were called to lead the operation to get him down and paramedics pronounced the 45-year-old dead at the scene in central London. In January, the Birmingham Post reported that Lord Paul’s family was worth an estimated £2bn.

Lord Paul passed ownership of Caparo to his son in 1996.

Starting with a single company making pipes for the gas industry, it grew to become an worldwide business operating in the United Kingdom, Europe, India and the US with an annual turnover of $1.5bn and 10,000 staff.

His tragic death comes in the backdrop of a crisis facing the Caparo industries which has been hit by a collapse in steel prices, forcing 16 of its companies to be put into administration, a process that is an alternative to liquidation. The future of another 1,200 jobs is uncertain.

The company spokesman confirmed Paul’s death but declined to elaborate.

He had made an attempt in creating the world’s fastest road-legal supercar, the £800,000 Caparo T1.

Several other projects include manufacture of superfast cars, films and design.

High-profile chief executive Mr. Paul, who married 40-year-old lawyer Michelle Bonn in 2005, shares the property with his parents, Lord and Lady Paul, and his 57-year-old twin brothers Ambar and Akash.

A source close to Lord Paul said last night: “It is hard, a son is a son”.

“The man’s next of kin has been informed, although we still await formal identification”.

He worked with Guy Ritchie on Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, with James Cordon on comedy horror Lesbian Vampire Killers, Gene Hackman in Heartbreakers and Paris Hilton in National Lampoon’s Pledge This!

The incident is not being treated as suspicious although enquiries continue, London’s Metropolitan police said in a statement.
