Android enthusiasts like the ability to root devices, granting owners the ability and rights to do pretty much anything they want to their gadget. LG clearly understands the value of not just superb hardware, but more importantly keeping up with the latest version of Android.
“We showed that the bottleneck for the delivery of updates in the Android ecosystem rests with the manufacturers, who fail to provide updates to x critical vulnerabilities“.
These include malicious attacks through apps and messages. After these updates have been completed, they are then sent to the respective telco for testing. The whole process will take just a few minutes.
To compare different Android devices, the researchers came up with a 1-10 security rating for referred to as the “FUM” score. Android handles updates slightly differently. According to the findings, 87.7 percent of Android devices are at risk from at least one major form of malware thanks in large part to delayed security updates from device manufacturers and service providers.
“Devices require updates from manufacturers, and the majority of devices aren’t getting them”.
He went on to explain that “you could not deactivate permissions (such as to your contacts or camera) later”. LG is the first company to update its smartphone to the latest Android M OS.
Unfortunately, something has gone wrong with the provision of security updates in the Android market. They will get the Android Marshmallow update later in 2016. However, he reminded everyone that this has proven to be not enough to protect users, and the only real solution is for manufacturers to deliver more security updates. Though that comes as no surprise, really, considering the Nexus 5X is also an LG-made device.
