Since the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer premiered Monday the internet has been ablaze with hilarious memes and GIFs made by fans; many of them joke that Star Wars broke the internet. Hamill mentioned that he pitched the idea of Luke turning evil to George Lucas before Return of the Jedi was filmed.

A cloaked individual with robotic arm can be glimpsed in the trailer, and many have been comfortable assuming that character is Luke. Really, it should be a surprise that it took this long for the collective unconscious of the online world to dredge up documentation of Mark Hamill pitching the idea of a villainous Luke Skywalker to a table of creatives that includes The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams.

Another reasonable theory is that Luke has pulled a Yoda.

A few are downright amusing (that Luke has morphed into Jar Jar Binks or that director J.J. Abrams already lost Hamill’s number) while a few are just pretty much absurd (Hamill – yes, the actor, and not Luke the character – got in between an intergalactic war; or that Disney has no rights to the Luke Skywalker character). I just thought that’s the way it was going from when we finished (Empire Strikes Back) I figured that’s what will be the pivotal moment. I mean, did you hear that Harrison Ford impression?

And from the look of things throughout this trailer it certainly doesn’t appear that the Rebel forces that defeated the Emperor and destroyed the Death Star ended up taking over the galaxy in terms of government or democracy.

Could Luke Skywalker be the catalyst that brought the First Order back to power while handing over the keys to the kingdom to his prodigy Kylo Ren? Even with several news about Mark Hamill joining the filming of the said movie, including a behind-the-scenes clip where he narrates bits and parts of it, fans still can’t help but speculate: Is he dead?

“I’ll have Han Solo in my crosshairs, and I’ll be about to kill him, or the Princess, or somebody that we care about”. It’s believed he has turned to the Dark Side. We know that Mark Hamill is in the film, but no reference or image of the character has shown up in any of the trailers, teasers or promotional images.

There’s still just under two months until the movie openings. “Or whatever the fuck it seems to be”. The discussion, captured in a video, has reportedly been making the rounds now that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is nearing its December.
