Five members of the Pi Cappa Alpha fraternity at Ole Miss were detained by police October. 16 after being accused of assaulting another student.
Boyle was found with broken teeth and a busted ear drum, bruised lung, groin, and ribs, and also suffered a concussion.
Tucker Steil, James Bastile, Kyle Hughes, Austin Rice and Christian Guyare were arrested following the assault, and now face charges ranging from felony assault to hazing.
Reporting on the misdemeanor charges, it wrote, “James Declan Basile, a business student, was arrested on charges of assault, hazing, and larceny”. Christian Guy and Kyle Hughes, business majors, were arrested on charges of larceny.
According to the police report, Boyle was attacked by members of Pi Kappa Alpha.
“It’s just disgusting”, commented fellow University of Mississippi student Rienzi Gray, according to The Times-Picayune.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss spokesman Danny Blanton said the university is pleased with the campus police investigation that led to charges in the cause. Steil faces an assault charge. “There is a different culture in the South. People have good behavior”.
A member of Jeremy’s fraternity said that Sigma Pi was letting the family deal with the situation, while Pi Cappa Alpha president Gunther Kenudston denied his fraternity had any involvement in the incident. He was treated at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford and released.
Students are speaking out about the actions of Pi Kappa Alpha. “In addition to the University judicial system, students and organizations who participate in or condone hazing may subject themselves to criminal prosecution and/or civil liability”. After conducting a thorough investigation, the committee reports their findings to the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct, which will decide whether the students will be punished.
