Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon by an explosion inside a World War II-era tank at a public firing range 24 miles east of Bend. The cause of the explosion remained unclear.
“I know that there was an incident, but I can’t comment on anything because I don’t know what happened”, Bill Lewis, COSSA’s director at large, told.
COSSA’s website indicates the shooting range is used by several law enforcement groups for training and practice.
Deputies from Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office found two people at the scene of the explosion with critical injuries.
Officers have been gathering evidence from the scene, and will be releasing more information after the families of the victims have been properly notified.
