Do not invest more money than you can afford to lose.
In the second inning, Duda smacked a two-run double to rightfield to stretch New York’s lead to 6-0. And maybe not Reggie Jackson just yet, still mets fans found their own Mr. October. With two out and a runner on in the first, Hammel walked Cespedes before Duda hit a long drive to center for his first playoff homer.
Daniel Murphy sent yet another shot soaring over the wall and thrust his right arm in the air – he was in the record book, his Mets were headed to the World Series. With two opposite-field singles and a double in his first four at-bats, Murphy looked more like his vintage self. The 30-year-old who only had 14 home runs during the regular season named series mvp.
In nine games overall this postseason, Murphy was hitting.
While it’s easy to get lost in Murphymania, somewhat lost in the conversation is David Wright – the team’s 12-year vet who wasn’t even sure he’d ever be able to put a Mets uniform on again this past summer.
“We have enough power to come back (if we fall behind)”. We’ve got game six playing out tonight. “I mean, how many people really play in the World Series?” “I’ve never been in the playoffs before, but starting to understand how valuable 90 feet are”.
Murphy is not a slugger-really he isn’t it-but that didn’t stop him from turning a Fernando Rodney pitch around, 415-feet to centerfield, in the eighth inning to give the Mets an 8-1 lead. The second baseman hit a home run in six consecutive playoff games, bested former teammate Carlos Beltran’s record of five straight games that the outfielder set in 2004. He pulled out a trumpet to play Taps, mourning the end of an exciting season and dashing the hopes and dreams of winning the World Series this year.
“If Mets fans are looking to make the trip to an away World Series game, it seems as if they should be cheering for the Blue Jays”, said Chris Leyden of SeatGeek, which also tracks the secondary ticket marketplace.
Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, the team’s most important player acquisition last year as the organizational rebuilding plan took a quantum leap behind the hiring of manager Joe Maddon, said he could only take positives from the year. “I knew he was going to be somewhere”, Collins said. Not only that, I think the biggest thing for me is they know how to compete. “They thought an injection would calm it down in a day, so he’ll be ready”.
“I wasn’t planning on going out for the postseason, but after they won the wild card and then beat the St. Louis Cardinals, the excitement started to build with fans of the Cubs who are also fans of Rookie of the Year“. They out-pitched the Cubs. They out-fielded the Cubs.
