Last year’s Golden Globes hosts were American comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who were at the helm for a third time.
In news that will either give you a reason to watch the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards or make you throw up in your mouth just a little, controversial comedian Ricky Gervais has been announced as the host for the January 10, 2016 ceremony.
The Golden Globes is one of Hollywood’s biggest and rowdiest awards ceremonies, and is broadcast live on NBC around the world.
Despite being all but banned from hosting the Golden Globes after having “crossed the line” according to Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s then-president Philip Berk, it’ll be Ricky Gervais’ fourth time hosting.
The Derek star, 54, tweeted his response shortly after, writing, “It’s a good job I’m drunk. Otherwise the thought of hosting The Golden Globes again would seem like a real pain in the arse”.
Robert Greenblatt complimented the male actor on Variety saying, “We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable way”.
It’s not clear why Gervais has changed his mind, but NBC is keen to have him back, noting his final hosting stint drew around 17 million viewers.
Gervais, the creator of mockumentary “The Office“, hosted the dinner for three consecutive years from 2010-2012, keeping his celebrity targets on edge with a stream of barbed comments. “Fasten your seats belts”. Nominations will be released on Thursday, December 10.
