Not even George Lucas seems to know what J.J. Abrams has planned for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The Star Wars creator, and director of four of the franchise’s installments, is one of a number of celebrities to ask Abrams a question in a new video posted by Vanity Fair.
“J.J., what happened to Darth Vader’s grandchildren?” Lucas asks via a video that Abrams plays on an iPad.
“Oh, George,” Abrams says in the clip, “this is great.” After a laugh, Abrams responds: “You tell me man. You made all this sh– up. “
The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams offered an update on the film’s progress and teased an answer to the question many fans have been wondering: “Where is Luke Skywalker?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn’t reach our screens for a while yet. Advance ticket sales on both sides of the Atlantic have obliterated previous records, leading to speculation that Abrams’ film might challenge Avatar for the mantle of highest-grossing movie of all time. We aren’t getting any more trailers for the film, so we’ll just have to wait for when the movie releases on December 17 to find out the truth.
According to Cinema Blend, the official theatrical poster for the movie was released showing his name but not his face piqued so much interest in the social media that speculations became rampant. It’s important to note that Kasdan wrote two of the most lauded installments in the Star Wars series-“The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi“. Truthfully, do they really have to? We also saw a showdown between Luke Skywalker and the evil Emperor, although we were left to our imagination as to what happened next.
A typically enigmatic response from the tight-lipped director, who goes on to reveal that it’s “no accident” Luke has yet to make an appearance in the trailers. I’m always interested in seeing people’s theories.
If there is one thing to love about J.J. Abrams, it is the way that through it all, he remains a true Star Wars fan at heart. His excitement and enthusiasm is admirable. Interestingly enough the actors who questioned Abrams did not ask about Kylo Ren being a sith or if any of the characters in the film were related to Han Solo and Princess Leia. Yoda’s name has been mentioned.
