Internet big Google is working with the government on a pilot venture for offering internet connectivity through the use of giant balloons. The government has already approved the testing of Project Loon in the country. The report said that Google may initially partner with BSNL for testing the technology in India.
Google, however, has yet to comment on the subject. However, Google’s role – whose Project Loon is responsible for these floating pieces of internet – may be limited to a technology service provider rather than an internet service provider. This reduces the cost of setting up towers which is time consuming by directly transmitting signals to phones.
Most of the people are yet to take 4G connections in India and it remains to be seen if Google will be successful in running these projects.
Google’s Project Loon is all about innovating new ways to provide internet access and “Balloon” is the result. By using a wireless communications technology named LTE or 4G, each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area of around 40 km in diameter. And for this, the teach giant with collaborate with telecom service providers to share cellular spectrum so that users can access the Internet everywhere directly from their phones as well as other LTE-enabled devices. Google uses solar panel and wind to power electronic equipment in the balloon throughout the day.
Google is creating a network of Internet accessibility via hundreds of floating balloons that could be providing service throughout underserved regions of the world as early as next year.
“The DeitY committee is taking a look at numerous elements to facilitate check like figuring out places, coordination with numerous businesses. Under the Drone project, Google had plans to transmit internet on ground using eight big solar powered drones, but that has not been cleared by government yet”, sources added.
