NASCAR announced its penalties to Danica Patrick and Matt Kenseth on Tuesday following the November 1 race at the Martinsville Speedway.

Patrick earned a $50,000 fine after she attempted to wreck David Gilliland’s No. 38 auto in the middle of the race. Additionally, Patrick is placed on NASCAR probation through the end of this year. With the penalty, Patrick drops from 24th to 27th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings.

The incident was preceded when Gilliand’s #38 Front Row Motorsports Ford made contact with Patrick’s #10 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet, sending the #10 GoDaddy Chevrolet into the outside wall of Turn 3 on Lap 158 during the race at Martinsville. She finished 40th and did not comment on the incident.

There was no immediate indication whether the Stewart-Haas team would appeal NASCAR’s decision.

Before their final encounter, Patrick said several times over her radio that she would retaliate. At one juncture Gilliland, driving a special paint scheme, passed Patrick prompting her to say, “Damn it, I was meaning to take him out”.

Gilliland responded post-race through his media representative: “Shut up and race”.
