Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Small Business Saturday.
Smaller, independent retail establishments will be celebrating Small Business Saturday today, encouraging customers to shop at independently owned businesses in downtowns around the country.

“Even people that don’t shop with us, that bought things online, we still try to help them out”.
Porter says the customer-service benefits of shopping local aren’t so bad either.
“This is not a spike day of Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon, especially as close to Mississippi State as we are with the big ball game going”.
“Small businesses get to bring in private designers, private jewelry makers, artisans and celebrate them and promote them”, sales clerk, Amy Stearley, said.
“It’s just that we appreciate people shopping local, and to the stores up and down Broadway”, said Peg Tomashek, of the store, A Bag Lady. “A dollar makes such a bigger difference locally than it does corporate”.
Katie Rennie, the co-owner of 25 Central in Northampton said it’s what sets them apart from the big box stores.
Five years ago, American Express launched Small Business Saturday to encourage people to shop small stores. Usually with most small businesses the owner is always there, or nearly always there. “But I think at the same time, we need to support these local places that also have their unique touches”. She and several other small business owners were at Loop Pharmacy in St. Albans Saturday to sell their products for Small Business Saturday. “But they then can come to the small businesses and get the things that they can’t find”.
