What was Woodson’s final game in Oakland – and might have been the last for the Raiders as well – was far from pretty but it ended in a victory. The Chargers took a 7-0 lead with 9:09 left in the first quarter.
The Chargers led for the majority of the game but fell behind in the 4 quarter when Derek Carr hit Michael Crabtree for a 3-yard touchdown.
“It’s a great place to see a game”, said Bob Gibson, a gas pump mechanic from Livermore whose first Raiders game was at Frank Youell Field in 1964. Otherwise, Crabtree’s second half of the season slump continued, as he averaged fewer than 10 yards per catch for the fifth time in his past six games. Oakland built a 31-point lead and held off a furious comeback to knock off the host Chargers 37-29 on October 25. “I’m not sure what it was, but something said it was time and I knew it in that instant that it was over”, added Woodson, who finished the game with a pair of tackles.
Woodson’s script has included 18 years, a Defensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl title among a litany of other distinctions.
