The financial charting tool and social and trading platform TradingView announced it has updated its house rules. It is imposing some restrictions on the content of the Idea status updates and bans contentious political discourse.
The reason for the restrictions on political commentaries is that “when people take sides in a combative way on a controversial geopolitical issue – for the sake of arguing one side and deriding the other, or for the sake of simply wanting to be right – it often gets out of hand. Sooner or later this leads to personal attacks, discriminatory remarks, or even hate speech.” As TradingView is an international site with users from different countries and with different religious and racial background, the platform bans “political zealotry”. Political discussions will only be allowed in the context of their influence on the markets and the TradingView moderators will have the right to take appropriate actions if the new rules are violated.
As for the Idea status updates, the TradingView moderators have noticed that the feature is often “abused” for promotional purposes – links to videos, facebook groups, trading signal services, announcements for webinars, requests for likes and follows, or to have prolonged public debates with individual members. With the new house rules, only information directly relevant to the published trading idea will be allowed in the status updates.
