Do not invest more money than you can afford to lose.
The number of margin trading accounts in Japan in the end of this March was 1.27 million, up 5% from last September, show the results of a survey of the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) conducted among its members. Of them 66.7% were active and had money in them.
The total number of online trading accounts was 22.59 million – an increase of nearly 1 million from the previous survey of the organization in September 2015, with 67.9% of the total being live.
According to the results, 66 companies of the 253 surveyed provide online trading – 5 more than in the previous survey. Another five are preparing for the launch of online trading and two are still considering the idea.
Interestingly, the largest share of trading accounts belonged to people in their 60’s and 70’s – 41.5%, which shows that the Japanese pensioners are financially savvy and actively trade online. Another 23.6% of the accounts were held by people in their 40’s.
The JSDA is a self-regulatory organization (SRO) of financial instruments firms and serves as an intermediary for the securities industry in Japan and a market regulator. It has around 500 members, which include the forex and binary options brokers, securities companies, banks, insurance companies and brokers in the country. The JSDA is one of the several SROs overseen by the government regulator, the Financial Services Agency (FSA).
