FXTM-backed BASE jumper Valery Rozov breaks world record

Valery Rozov, the BASE jumper and Red Bull athlete supported by the Cyprus-regulated forex broker FXTM, has set a new world record for highest exit spot for a BASE jump.

According to the broker’s announcement, Rozov undertook a 21-day expedition to the world’s sixth-highest peak – Mount Cho Oyu in China and leapt from 7700 meters. He broke his own record from 2013 when he jumped off the Changtse peak (7220 meters) at the Everest Massif.

After 90 seconds’ freefall in his specially designed Red Bull wingsuit, Rozov opened his parachute and flew for another two minutes before landing on a glacier at 6000 meters above sea level.

“It was my dream and my goal for the last three years,” Rozov said, quoted on the Red Bull website.

Getting to Cho Oyu was a feat in itself for Rozov and his team. Lots of fresh now and very bad weather stopped the group from reaching the exit spot at the first attempt. They had to wait a full week for the weather to clear and the snow to melt a bit.

“This journey has been a fantastic experience from start to finish”, Rozov said. “I am very grateful to FXTM for its ongoing support in this project, and for giving us both the opportunity to show the world that if you want to achieve something great you need to push yourself and not give up.”

BASE jumping, also sometimes written as B.A.S.E. jumping, is parachuting or wingsuit flying from a fixed structure or a cliff. “BASE” stands for the four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: building, antenna, span, and Earth (cliff). BASE jumping is an extreme sport, that gained popularity among the general public thanks to numerous action movies. Because the altitude of the jumps is lower, BASE jumping is considered far more dangerous than skydiving from a plane.

Rozov has also jumped off the highest peak in Europe – Mount Elbrus and was the first person to free-fall into a volcano – Mutnovskiy – one of the most active volcanoes in Kamchatka.
